Alias Is Gone For Good

It’s a sad day today. I found out today that will be finished in May, at the conclusion of their 5th season.

I know that some people don’t get the fact that a person can be so attached to a TV show. But I really was. For 4 and a half years, I haven’t missed one episode and have been emotionally drawn into the characters almost like I was part of the story myself.

ABC didn’t actually come out and say that is canceled, instead they announced the “countdown to [the] series finale.” I understand that the ratings fell… but ABC had following Lost last year, and pulled in 10 million viewers. They’re down to 7.7 this year, which when you look at it - being on opposite CBS’s Survivor - really isn’t that bad.

Here’s the kicker. fans are fanatics. They’ll buy anything ABC puts the name on… t-shirts, DVDs, mugs, wigs, screen plays… jesus… they could have a whole frickin business just selling merchandise. In fact, they do.

It’s also sad that the producers (JJ Abrams is too busy writing/directing Mission Impossible 3 to care) aren’t looking to alternative deals with netwoks such as WB, Sci-Fi, Spike, FX, etc. If the show is pulling 7.7 million fanatic viewers in a crappy time-slot, I’ll put money that they’ll pull 5 million of those viewers to a cable channel. That’s a big number for a cable show. But it’s not gonna happen. And it’s sad.

Here’s to the memories…. Thanks Syd.
