Here’s something that has to be the oldest news that’s new to me… the RIAA has a Gold and Platinum award for digital downloads! The RIAA announced their program in July of 2004!!! Most of us know that there’s been Gold and Platinum awards for physical record sales (500,000 and 1,000,000 respectively) - a little less known fact is that they have a Diamond award for 10 million sold… but now 100,000 digital downloads from services like Napster gets you a digital Gold award, and 200,000 downloads gets you the digital Platinum…
You’d think, with me working in a world of digital music, albeit sheet music, I’d have some type of clue… but no.
On Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, there’s a handful of songs that have made platinum status, including: Beyonce Featuring Slim Thug Check On It, James Blunt You’re Beautiful, Natasha Bedingfield Unwritten, and Chris Brown Run It!, among others.
An interesting little tidbit…
